Support for Windows XP with SP2 and Windows Vista Ends July 13, 2010

Microsoft support for the Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2) and Windows Vista (RTM version) operating systems will end July 13, 2010. You may want to start thinking about trying and using Windows 7. Don’t get caught running an unsupported operating system.

You should at least know what Windows 7 has to offer and where it comes up short. You might be planning to do this on your own schedule and ignore the launch that’s just 10 days away, but you will find that you pretty much have to do some of your preparation on Microsoft’s schedule. ”

Windows 7 Gets Raves from Wall Street Journal

Walt Mossberg of The Wall Street Journal writes that Windows 7 is “the best version of Windows Microsoft has produced.”

That’s a pretty strong endorsement! Having used Windows 7, both 32 and 64bit editions for a few months now I can share some of the enthusiasm. I have just one more Vista machine to upgrade, and I hope to go 64bit all the way. Unfortunately I haven’t solidified my plans or recommendations for older XP machines. That’s going to be a bit trickier.

Windows 7 – The good and not so good.

We’re still a week away from public availability but the feedback on Windows 7 is everywhere. Generally speaking the feedback is mostly positive. Even the Wall Street Journal is calling it “the best version of Windows Microsoft has produced”.

I’ve been using it for a few months now myself and can certainly agree with the comment “it leaves Vista in the dust”. Time will tell if it will successfuly retire old faithful – Windows XP.
